Magnetic fluid
Metal magnetic fluid < material controlled by magnetic field >As shown in below pictures, the black colored liquid is drawn towards the magnet as it is brought close to the fluid. This black colored liquid in the pictures below is called “a ferrofluid or magnetic fluid”. In fact, this magnetic fluid was invented in 1963 for NASA, for certain space program. This newly invented material was a result of interests of a scientist who had an idea to supply fuel in space, thought of adding iron into a fuel liquid.


The raw material of the magnetic fluidis consisted of magnetic particles, a surfactant, and a base liquid which becomes a carrier. The particles (magnetite- Fe₃O₄) have an average size of about 100A (10 nm), are coated with surfactant that flow in based liquid. The particles in the based liquid are dispersed stably without any condensation, sedimentation and separation. This stability is remained in zero gravity and strong magnetic field circumstances. Magnetic fluid is potential in future business in high technology industries and it considered as a business with good prospects in these days.


The Ferro seal create liquid O-ring around a rotating shaft that completely seal the gap between shaft and pole-piece by magnetic field. The Ferro seal is sealing device that transmit rotational motion to vacuum chamber and seal rotating shaft completely. Principle mechanism of ferro seal is each stage protected and secured by liquid O-ring that maintain about 0.15 to 0.2 standard pressures.
